Dutch Defense Chess Books

Dutch Defense

With an early advance of the f-pawn black chooses to play a sharp game. The imbalance on the board usually brings some early tactical motives. Both players shouldn't be afraid of complications and pawn sacrifices for activity are often to be seen. Whether black opts for the Stonewall, Leningrad or Classical Dutch, there will most likely be attacking opportunities for both players. Although it is quit rare at the absolute top level, the Dutch has some well known advocates like Simon Williams, Viktor Moskalenko and Erwin l'Ami. The Dutch is relatively easy to learn, fun to play and last but not least an opening with some clear cut ideas that could take your solid opponents off guard. If you’re not afraid to push your kingside pawns and go all in, the Dutch may just be something for you. So, if you want to try something else against 1. d4, try the Dutch.

The Killer Dutch - Simon Williams
2015 Everyman Chess The Killer Dutch-Simon Williams

You might call the Dutch the favourite opening of the colourful English Grandmaster Simon Williams. On top of that Williams always chooses the sharpest lines within the Classical Dutch. Sometimes slightly dubious, but always true to his playing style and with practical chances.

Play The Dutch: An Opening Repertoire For Black Based On The Leningrad Variation - Neil Mcdonald
2010 Everyman Chess Play The Dutch: An Opening Repertoire For Black Based On The Leningrad Variation-Neil Mcdonald

This book is build around the Leningrad Dutch, characterised by the move d7-d6 and the bishop fianchetto to g7. That being said, in some variations the pawn is better placed on the d5-square, transforming to some sort of Stonewall. That’s one of the reasons why playing the Dutch requires a bit more information than just some long, theoretical lines. Information this book offers rightly so. Also early deviations like 2. Bg5, 2. Nc3 and the Staunton Gambit (2. e4) get their full attention.
