Opening Repertoire Chess Books

If you’re not an absolute beginner at chess anymore, maybe it’s time to think about building an opening repertoire. It goes without saying that it’s important to start off the game of chess with confidence in order to increase your chances of winning. Choosing your openings with care can also help you to create middlegame positions with whom you are familiar and suit your style. Knowledge of specific lines, general ideas and motives will increase the feeling of safety behind the board, and you can concentrate more on the things that make the game beautiful, such as calculation and positional choices. One can speak already of a repertoire if one has an answer with black to 1. e4 and 1. d4 and with the white pieces has a steady opening line, variation or system. That being said, a real opening repertoire consists of a bit more, including answers to 1. c4 and 1. Nf3, and not unimportant in this day and age, some flexibility with both colours. If you become active on a club, in tournaments or in another competition (even on the internet), at some point you may appear in the database on the web. Then, it’s advisable not to make it your opponent too easy and be totally predictable. More important, learning opening(systems) and building a repertoire with both colours is great fun, making you a more complete chess player, increasing the knowledge about the game in general. So, if you’re relatively new to the game or already on your way, in this section you will find books and dvd’s on building a repertoire. The authors will give you a tour around the opening lines, provide you with tips and trics and concrete openings that suit your style.

A Simple Chess Opening Repertoire For White - Sam Collins
2016 Gambit Publications A Simple Chess Opening Repertoire For White-Sam Collins

The title in this case tells how it is; Sam Collins helps you to build a relatively simple repertoire for white. White plan is a very straightforward one. After playing 1. e4 white aims for isolated queen pawn positions. This can be reached after e.g. the Tarrash French, Panov Caro-Kann and c3-Sicilian. By doing so, the claim is you know what the plans are, after a while you’ll develop some experience in these kind of positions, while for your opponent it may be relatively new territory.
